Burzum is a Norwegian black metal music project founded by Varg Vikernes in the early 1990s. The name Burzum comes from the Black Speech of Mordor in J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium and means “darkness.” Known for its raw, atmospheric sound, Burzum played a major role in shaping the second wave of black metal. Over time, the project also shifted toward ambient and dark folk music.
